TAURAGE COUNTY - Environment

Weak industrial sector helps environment

The industrial sector being relatively weak here, has had a positive impact on the county's ecological state. In 2002, 33 kg of hard pollutants and 353 kg of gaseous and liquid pollutants were emitted per km2 into the atmosphere from stationary pollution sources.

State policy has had a great impact on improving the ecological state of the county, as 4 regional parks (Panemune, Pagramantis, Rambynas and Varniai), and one nature reserve ( Viešvile ) have been established in the county.

At the end of 2002 the main telephone lines amounted 24 480, of which 21 282 in dwellings. There were 183 main telephone lines per 1 000 population.
